Capoeira was born out of an oppressed peoples’ struggle for freedom. Because capoeira has always been associated with people excluded from the mainstream, inclusion is at its heart. Men and women of all ethnicities, ages, faiths, and social strata levels come together in the capoeira roda. Moving to the beat of the berimbau, they are all citizens of the world striving to share their freedom and improve their quality of life.
